Combat ticks naturally:

Fenugreek

In the store we are often asked whether ticks (and other pests) can be combated naturally. We searched for a long time and tried a lot. Unfortunately, our experience is that 'natural' remedies such as essential oils, garlic, etc. can work, but not always.

But we have good experiences and feedback from customers in our store about Fenugreek and repelling ticks. Even in risk areas such as the Veluwe and Ardennes.

What is Fenugreek?

Foenugraecum officicinale Moench, or while Fenugreek, is a plant from the legume family. Other names for Fenugreek are Fenugreek or 'Greek hay'. It is used in cooking, medicinally but also in agriculture to protect crops against fungi.

It is an annual aromatic plant that spreads a pungent odor, a maggi-like scent. It is an herb, so not chemical. This means that it is better for your four-legged friend, but at the same time you are not guaranteed that it will work for every dog. It's a matter of trying!

In addition, the advantage is that the smell repels the tick . This, instead of ticks first biting and sucking blood (and thus can transmit diseases) and then dying, as with pipettes or pills against ticks.

Ground Fenugreek is also inexpensive and is rich in vitamins and minerals such as:

  • Vitamins: A, B1, B2, B3, B6, C, E
  • Minerals: magnesium, calcium, selenium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, chromium and sulphur

 Dogs often like it too.

Usage:

Mix the following amount of ground fenugreek into your dog's food for 10 days:

  • Dog up to 10 kg: Mix half a teaspoon with the food once a day;
  • Dog up to 15 kg: Mix a teaspoon with the food once a day;
  • Dog 15-30 kg: Mix a level tablespoon with the food once a day;
  • Dog from 30 kg: Mix a level tablespoon with the food twice a day.

After these 10 days you will smell a 'maggi' odor in your dog. You can then suffice with the dose appropriate to the weight of your dog 4 times a week. Does your dog no longer smell of the fenugreek/maggi scent? Then you give a little extra. Does your dog eat chunks ? Then you can add a little water to mix everything well.

Always check your four-legged friend for ticks after a walk, even if you opt for a chemical treatment.

NB: do not use on lactating or pregnant bitches, not even on pseudo-pregnant bitches. Puppies from 4 months: halve the amount.

As with all nutrients: vary.
